Show: Collaboration
End Date: 26 Jul 2009
Following critically acclaimed runs at Chichester Festival Theatre, Ronald Harwood’s highly successful drama, Taking Sides, and its brand new companion play, Collaboration, transfer to London’s West End for a limited period only.
“These Harwood companion pieces deserve only applause” Daily Mail
Taking Sides, first seen in 1995, deals with an investigation into the great German conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler (Michael Pennington). After the war, Furtwängler, a high profile Nazi sympathiser, became the target for vigorous interrogation by the crude, apparently uncultured Major Steve Arnold (David Horovitch).
Michael Pennington also plays composer Richard Strauss in Harwood's London premiere of Collaboration. The play opens in 1931 in a spirit of optimism as Strauss and writer Stefan Zweig (David Horovitch) embark on an invigorating artistic partnership. However, Zweig is a Jew and the Nazis are on the march.
“One exhilarating theatrical debate” The Daily Telegraph
