Going to the theatre can seem expensive if you're on a budget - but there are some great deals available, if you know where to look.
Some West End shows offer discount tickets ‘Standbys’ for students and sixth formers, when tickets are purchased directly at the box office on the day of the performance.
Not all theatres offer this discount, so it is always worth ringing the box office to check availability, or pick up a copy of The Official London Theatre Guide (available from theatre foyers and tourist outlets), which features this symbol [S] when shows offer a standby rate.
Most theatres ask you to turn up half an hour or an hour before the performance, and to have some form of student ID with you.
