Serenading Louie

Donmar Warehouse, Earlham Street, London

Serenading Louie follows Carl and Alex, friends from college who, as they enter their thirties, are struggling to deal with the harsh realities of adulthood. Disillusioned by work and struggling to keep their marriage alive, they are desperately trying to make sense of it all.

Lanford Wilson’s timeless portrait of two suburban American couples, Serenading Louie explores the destruction of dreams and the loss of passion and purpose.

Septuagenarian playwright Wilson was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1980 for Talley’s Folley. In addition to Serenading Louie, his plays include Fifth Of July, The Hot L Baltimore and The Mound Builders.

Serenading Louie is directed by Simon Curtis, who has previously directed productions including Road, A Lie Of The Mind (both Royal Court), Making History (National Theatre), Dinner With Friends (Hampstead theatre) and Otherwise Engaged (Criterion theatre). His screen directing credits include Cranford, A Short Stay In Switzerland, Man And Boy, David Copperfield and Old Times.
