Andersen's English
A new play about an imagined meeting between the great writers Charles Dickens and Hans Christian Andersen.
Andersen's English is a new play which imagines a meeting between Victorian English novelist Charles Dickens and Danish fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen.
Set in the imagined home of Dickens, Andersen's English opens with the Danish writer arriving unannounced. To the lonely and eccentric guest, the members of Dickens's household seem to live a life of unreachable bliss. But with his broken English, Andersen fails to recognise the storms brewing within the family.
Andersen's English is directed by Max Stafford-Clark, the former Artistic Director of the Royal Court, and has a cast that includes London stage regulars Niamh Cusack, David Rintoul and Danny Sapani.
