The Country Girl

The Country Girl stars Judge John Deed co-stars Jenny Seagrove and Martin Shaw in a tale of an alcoholic actor and his wife, whose relationship is tested to the limit.

In The Country Girl, Shaw plays fading star Frank Elgin, a performer in decline who is offered the chance to once again stand in the limelight as the lead of a new musical production. But the actor is completely dependent on his cold wife and his new shot at fame exposes the couple’s deep-rooted flaws.

Seagrove has been a regular feature of the West End stage in recent years, appearing in productions including Bedroom Farce, A Daughter’s A Daughter, Absurd Person Singular, The Letter, The Night Of The Iguana, The Secret Rapture and The Constant Wife.

Before The Country Wife, Shaw was last seen in London in the 2005 production of A Man For All Seasons. His previous stage performances include An Ideal Husband, Betrayal, A Streetcar Named Desire and Look Back In Anger. He previously appeared in The Country Girl at the Apollo theatre in 1983, playing the director opposite Hannah Gordon and John Stride.

The Country Girl co-stars Seagrove and Shaw spent six years working together on TV series Judge John Deed between 2001 and 2007.
