When We Are Married

Garrick Theatre, Charing Cross Road, London

J B Priestley's comedy about class and hyprocrisy, When We Are Married, is revived in the West End by director Christopher Luscombe.

When We Are Married is set in 1908 Clecklewyke in West Yorkshire. Three well-to-do couples - the Parkers, Soppitts and Helliwells - who were married on the same day at the same church by the same vicar, come together to celebrate 25 years of blissful matrimony.

Disaster strikes with the shocking revelation that the vicar who married them wasn't actually licensed, and these pillars of the community aren't as respectably married as they thought they were.

Home truths fly like confetti, an old flame returns and uninvited guests start to call. With a photographer from the local paper due to arrive, a missing housekeeper and a doorbell that won't stop ringing, the couples try to keep a lid on their embarassing secret...

When We Are Married features a cast of West End regulars including Maureen Lipman, whose recent credits include A Little Night Music and Glorious!

When We Are Married playwright J B Priestley was one the foremost English writers of the 20th century. His other plays include An Inspector Calls and Time And The Conways.
