Faust
Tony Award winner Des McAnuff makes his UK opera debut directing Gounod's version of the old tale about a man who sells his soul.

Of all the music inspired by the ancient tale of Faust, the old philosopher who sells his soul for a second lease of life, Gounod's Goethe-based opera is at once the most grandly spectacular and the most endearingly romantic.
This new production updates the story's classic setting to a more contemporary world at war. Faust, the scientist and lover whose pact with the devil seems to lead to damnation, is redeemed in his final moments by his love for Marguerite.
English National Opera’s new co-production of Faust with New York's Metropolitan Opera marks the UK opera debut of the Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, Tommy).
Faust’s cast is led by Toby Spence (2008's Candide) and Melody Moore (2009's Mimì in La Bohème) as Faust and Marguerite, with Iain Paterson as the devilish Mephistopheles and Benedict Nelson as Gretchen's soldier brother Valentin.
English National Opera's Laurence Olivier Award-winning Music Director, Edward Gardner, conducts Faust.
