The Trial Of Ubu

Hampstead Theatre, Eton Avenue, London

Simon Stephens’s new satirical play The Trial Of Ubu sees an amoral megalomaniac brought before an international tribunal.

The darkly funny The Trial Of Ubu explores the central legitimacy and effectiveness of international law. How does a civilised society deal with the perpetrators of unspeakable crime? Wherein lies the legitimacy of any internationally convened tribunal?

In The Trial Of Ubu, Stephens takes a wry and intelligent look at the often absurd legal wrangling of international courts, as they struggle to deal with defendants utterly opposed to the morality and rule of law that they represent in this funny yet unsettling play.

Stephens’s previous plays include Country Music, Harper Regan, Motortown, On The Shore Of The Wide World, Punk Rock and A Thousand Stars Explode In The Sky.

The Trial Of Ubu reunites playwright Stephens with director Katie Mitchell who worked with him first of the Royal Court production of Wastwater.

The Trial Of Ubu is a UK premiere.
