Award-winning film and television actress Joely Richardson makes a welcome return to the London stage in this revival of The Lady From The Sea at the Rose Theatre, Kingston.
Ellida is married to Dr Wangel and lives with him and his two daughters. But she feels claustrophobic and restless and swims in the sea every day. Ten years ago she promised herself to another man. On a late summer’s day he comes to claim her.
Henrik Ibsen’s elusive masterpiece offers a surprisingly optimistic answer to the riddle that he posed in A Doll’s House: happiness in marriage is possible, but only under the right conditions…
The Lady from the Sea is directed by Stephen Unwin, who has been widely hailed for his five productions of Ibsen, including an award-winning Hedda Gabler at the Donmar Warehouse.
Part of a British theatrical dynasty that includes her mother Vanessa Redgrave and her late sister Natasha Richardson, Richardson is best known for her screen work, which includes hit US series Nip/Tuck and The Tudors, though she recently returned to the stage in the New York production of Side Effects.

- Access description: The main entrance to the theatre is at ground level, and there are lifts to every level. There are no mobility parking bays outside the theatre but patrons may be dropped off in Wadbroke Street to the left of the entrance.
- Hearing impaired: Infra-rad and Induction loop.
- Guide dogs policy: Please advise the theatre if you are bringing a guide dog, so that a water bowl and dog-sitter can be arranged.
- Wheelchairs: There are five wheelchair spaces with companion seats in both the stalls and the circle, though there is no wheelchair access to the upper circle.
