Olga, Masha and Irina are frustrated by their parochial life in a remote military outpost and yearn for the chance to go back to the cultured, multifaceted and meaningful life they glimpsed in Moscow.
But with their brother Andrei a constant disappointment and their attempts to return to the perfect life of Moscow repeatedly thwarted, they have to find the courage to create the life they want by themselves.
Benedict Andrews was former resident director of the Sydney Theatre Company where his acclaimed productions included the multi-award-winning The Season Of Sarspilla and The Wars Of The Roses with Cate Blanchett.
