Young Vic, The Cut, Waterloo, London, United Kingdom, SE1 8LZ

Torn apart by loathing of her state of infertility, Yerma is a young woman engaged in a desperately anguished battle for maternity, in this new adaptation starring Olivier Award nominated actor Billie Piper.

Transported to modern day London, the play tells of a childless woman whose single-minded drive to become a mother escalates to horrifying extremity, driven by the crushing expectations of the society in which she is embedded.

But will such struggles result in freedom from her very past?

Following his critically successful run at the Barbican last year with The Wild Duck, Director Simon Stone’s first original work for the UK is a novel re-imagination of Federico Garcia Lorca’s tragic masterpiece at the Young Vic.
