With a crash of drums and a flash of light Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has returned to the West End with its dazzling coat of many colours.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's colourful retelling of the famous biblical story about Joseph, his uncanny dream-deciphering abilities and his flashy jacket, is filled with popular songs, including Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the story of Joseph, son of Jacob and one of 12 brothers. As his father's favourite, his jealous brothers turn against him and sell him to passing merchants. This is just the start of an adventure that will see him rise to greatness, from slavery to becoming the Pharaoh’s right hand man. Full of drama, action and fun Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an exciting musical for all the family.

Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was written as a short piece for Colet Court School in Hammersmith and first performed in March 1968. Following extra performances it was recorded as an album, but did not receive a professional production until 1972 when it was staged at the Edinburgh Festival.

Gareth Gates, who stars as Joseph, found fame by finishing second to Will Young in the first series of Pop Idol in 2002. Since then he has had four number one singles and sold 3.5 million records. His appearance in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is his first as a West End leading man, though he has also appeared in charity gala A Spoonful Of Stiles And Drewe at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and as Prince Charming in Cinderella at the New Wimbledon theatre.

Jenna Lee James, who plays the Narrator, was the runner up in the Voice Of Musical Theatre 2005 and has previously appeared in We Will Rock You in the West End, playing the roles of Meatloaf and Scaramouche.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat also features The Carmel Thomas Youth Singers as the onstage children's choir.
