Based on her own experiences as a Korean-born woman adopted and raised in the UK, This Isn't Romance explores the issues around the subject of cross-cultural adoption, centring on a character who returns to her native Korea and begins a highly charged relationship with the brother she left behind. In doing so, she hopes to answer the questions she has grown up with - why does Korea give away so many of its babies?; and can cross-cultural adoptees every really identify with either country?
Playwright In-Sook Chappell is a former model turned actress turned playwright. This Isn't Romance is her first play, and won the 2007 Verity Bargate Award which aims to highlight new work by emerging playwrights.
