This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Olivier Awards with MasterCard. Four decades of prize-giving and statuettes, red carpet glamour and speeches. And while we’re big fans of such things, most important to the Olivier Awards is its unequivocal celebration of the incredible talent that makes theatre so vital, alive and imperative to not only London but the world.
If that sounds lofty, maybe some of this year’s Olivier Awards nominees will convince you just how important theatre is. From the esteemed Best Actor nominee Kenneth Cranham (The Father) and stage veteran Tracie Bennett (Mrs Henderson Presents) to (relative) stage newcomers Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’s O-T Fagbenle and Hand To God’s Jemima Rooper, they all have a lot to say on the topic…
We caught up with the class of 2016 Olivier Award nominees at an exclusive Nominees’ Celebration to get their thoughts captured in the video above. Here’s to the next 40 years.
The winners of the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard will be announced in a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 3 April.
