Frances O’Connor, Tanya Franks, Alexander Hanson and Robert Portal will star in Florian Zeller’s The Truth when it receives its UK premiere at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory next month.

The tale of two couples exploring friendship, deceit and suspicion runs at the Southwark venue from 10 March to 7 May.

The cast, which will be directed by Lindsay Posner, all boast a wealth of experience on both stage and screen.

Mr Selfridge’s O’Connor has twice been nominated for a Golden Globe, for The Missing and Madame Bovary, and was last seen on the London stage in Tom & Viv at the Almeida Theatre.

Franks has been a regular in TV series including Broadchurch, Pulling and EastEnders, while also appearing in stage productions including Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lad (National Theatre) and East (West End).

Hanson returns to the Menier Chocolate Factory, where he was last seen in A Little Night Music, having added performances in The Gathered Leaves (Park Theatre), Accolade (St James Theatre) and Stephen Ward (Aldwych Theatre) to his CV.

Portal, who also returns to the Menier having previously appeared in Communicating Doors and The Common Pursuit, was last seen embarking on an extraordinary adventure at the St James Theatre in Around The World In 80 Days.

The Truth is the latest piece by French playwright Zeller, adapted by Christopher Hampton, to play in London. It follows the success of The Father, which returns to the Duke of York’s Theatre this month, and The Mother, which is currently playing at the Tricycle Theatre.

It opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory following the sold out run of Funny Girl, starring Sheridan Smith, which ends its run 5 March before transferring to the Savoy Theatre in April.
