Jericho star Jessica Raine will return to the London stage in March, when she stars with Rudi Dharmalingam, Darrell D’Silva, James Harkness and Ria Zmitrowicz in Alistair McDowall’s new play X.

McDowall’s sci-fi tale of a research base on Pluto, cut off from Earth and waiting for help, runs at the Sloane Square venue from 30 March.

Former Call The Midwife star Raine boasts previous stage credits including Roots (Donmar Warehouse), The Changeling (Young Vic) and Earthquakes In London (National Theatre).

Zmitrowicz, who was last on the London stage in the award-winning Four Minutes Twelve Seconds, and Harkness (Great Britain, National Theatre) also make their Royal Court debuts in the production.

Dharmalingam, seen on stage last year in Hamlet and Oresteia, returns to the Royal Court, where he previously appeared in Hope. Royal Shakespeare Company regular D’Silva last appeared at the Court in The Lying Kind.

McDowall’s tale of abandonment and the torture of endless waiting is directed by the Royal Court’s Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone. The playwright previously won huge acclaim for Pomona, which ran at the Orange Tree Theatre before transferring to the National Theatre.

X opens at the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs following the run of current hit Escaped Alone, Caryl Churchill’s tale of tea drinking and the apocalypse that runs until 12 March.
