The Menier Chocolate Factory production of A Little Night Music, which transferred to the Garrick theatre in March, is to close on 25 July.

The Trevor Nunn-directed production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical was originally programmed to close this month, but extended its West End run in May and had been expected to close on 5 September ahead of a Broadway transfer.

The musical, which stars West End regulars Hannah Waddingham, Maureen Lipman, Alexander Hanson and Kelly Price alongside newcomer and I’d Do Anything runner up Jessie Buckley, opened to much acclaim at London Bridge’s intimate Menier Chocolate Factory in December before taking the leap to the West End earlier this year.

Set in 19th century Sweden, and based on Ingmar Bergman’s Smile Of A Summer Night, it is a witty story of intermingled love affairs in a sultry Swedish summer and features one of Sondheim’s most famous songs, Send In The Clowns.

There is currently no news about whether any show will fill the Garrick theatre between the closure of A Little Night Music and the opening of The Mysteries - Yiimimangaliso in September.
