Celebrate The Centenary

Sir Charles WyndhamCelebrate The Centenary

On 20 February 1908 a group of London theatre managers came together to form the Society of West End Theatre Managers (now renamed the Society of London Theatre, or SOLT). In doing so, they ceased being just separate theatre owners working in London and created an industry that has grown into the exciting, colourful and vibrant arts scene known as London’s Theatreland.

Now, in 2008, we are celebrating the centenary of the London theatre industry and 100 years of SOLT with events throughout the year and this brand new centenary section of Official London Theatre. Here you can see how London theatre has grown and changed, who the movers and shakers have been and, most importantly, share your memories, thoughts and pictures. You can also keep track of everything taking place as part of the celebrations. So have a look around, get involved and keep checking back during 2008 to see what is new.

Capturing the Moment

Reg Wilson Photography Exhibition

From Tuesday 11th November, Playhouse Theatre

The photographs of renowned theatre photographer Reg Wilson are to be exhibited at the Playhouse Theatre by the Victoria and Albert Museum Theatre Collection in the latest event celebrating the Society of London Theatre’s centenary.

Reg is one of London’s most prolific photographers of the performing arts and during the second half of last century took over 800,000 theatre photographs, gaining access to many of the great stage actors and performers.  His iconic images are still very much in use today.

This exhibition of over forty of Reg’s theatrical photographs, entitled Capturing the Moment, will be open to the general public at a series of open days at the Playhouse Theatre and to the audience of La Cage aux Folles.
